1/New Cosmopolitans: The Face of the European.

Participation in the literary event: “L’Escale du livre” in April 2009.

Jorge Semprun (L'homme européen, Plon), Katharina Hacker (Démunis, Christian Bourgois), Mathias Enard (Zone, Actes Sud) debated the question, What does it Mean to be European?
Beyond our national identity, is there an identity or point of view which is European? Do we share the same values? What does it mean to be European? At a time when society is evolving rapidly, the current international climate is unstable and the face of the “old continent” is changing profoundly, Europe must assert its values and be ready to face changes. What role do writers have to play in the quest for a European identity?
